HELPFUL TECH TIPS AND TRICKS FOR THE RECORD:
Below is a list of helpful tips you can use to help improve the audio experience before we start our interview.
Connect your laptop or computer directly to your router with your Ethernet cable (if possible). More and more laptops are being made without an Ethernet port, but a USB adaptor is available from an electronic store or online. Sometimes this just isn’t possible. No worries.
-
Make sure to be in a spot that gets good reception.
-
Sit in a comfy chair. Just make sure that the seat doesn’t creak or squeak, please.
-
Yes, it fits perfectly on your lap, but you’ll get better audio if you place your laptop on an even surface like a desk or table.
-
Make sure your room is nice and quiet without any alarm clocks or pets that might go off unexpectedly. Avoid any room that has echoes.
-
If you have a mic that you like to use, please feel free to use it! External mics will give you the best sound. Don’t have one? Please be sure to speak as close to your built-in computer mic as comfortably as you can. The closer you are the better you should sound.
-
Wearing headphones and ear buds not only help you hear the convo more clearly, it cancels out the Echo Cancelation function on Zoom. This can help improve the audio and keep your CPU from getting a workout.
-
Laptop fans are more likely to turn on when the computer is running lots of programs in the background. If it’s not too much to ask, please limit your programs to the Zoom and browser apps during the interview.
ZOOM ADVANCED SETTINGS
If you are uncomfortable poking around with these settings, leave the settings as is or on auto. But if you don’t mind going into the Advanced tabs, this can help a lot.
Under the Audio Tab
Uncheck “Automatically Adjust Microphone Volume.” Now you can manually adjust your mic volume. Pay attention to your Input Level to make sure you are not hitting into the red. You want to be just below the red.
FINALLY:
Have a great interview! We look forward to speaking with you!
